So, I was driving on I-64…

…and I saw a billboard.? I’ve actually seen a similar billboard somewhere else (I-44, I think), but it was this one that caused me to go by their website.

“Question homosexuality,” says their slogans.? “Freedom from homosexuality through the power of Jesus Christ,” says their website title. Their website continues to explain their position as such:

“…Christ offers a healing alternative to those with homosexual tendencies. EXODUS upholds redemption for the homosexual person as the process whereby sin’s power is broken, and the individual is freed to know and experience true identity as discovered in Christ and His Church. That process entails the freedom to grow into heterosexuality.”

So, overall, what have we learned here?? This group, Exodus, says there’s a “cure” for homosexuality.? They say that homosexuality “is a choice” and that homosexuals can be “reoriented.”

Well, geez, while we’re at it, do you think Exodus could “cure” the Communists?? How about the Jews, or Muslims, or Hindi, or any other religion that isn’t Christian?? Why not Cubans, Iraqis, Chinese, Bosnians or Mexicans?? I mean, these are all “choices” that take them “further from Jesus Christ” and that “reorientation” toward Christianity will solve all our world’s problems.

…pity there isn’t a “cure” for so-called “Christians” that persecute people they don’t understand, rather than simply trying to promote Christianity as the loving and understanding religion it’s supposed to be…

  1. I’d say homosexuality is slightly different from all those other organizations you mentioned: those people will burn too, but they don’t claim to be Christian. You’re persecuting those fundamentalist Christians who think “God Hates Fags.” For their religious beliefs no less. Cultural relativism is hard to practice if you’re in the mood to judge. And understanding Christianity the way “It’s supposed to be”? I imagine you could spend the rest of your life exploring all the ways the different aspects of Christianity determine what Christianity is “supposed to be.”

I don’t have a problem with gay people, (besides that I find them odd from a biological perspective) and I think Fred Phelps is a tool, but then again, I’m not generally accepting of other people and their ideas just because they’re people too… Just thought I’d throw out my 2 cents.

  2. i’ve noticed that every time you say “that guy is being a douchebag and a hypocrite” regarding some purported Christian, someone else shows up to say “you’re being intolerant, why don’t you practice what you preach?” the bottom line is that tolerance only goes so far. the nature of belief causes conflict. fuckin’ deal with it.

furthermore, i’ve encountered a number of people lately that say things like “homosexuality goes against nature” or something like that. well, guess what? medicine goes against that concept of “nature.” that concept of “nature” dictates that, when you get sick, you get better or you die. respirators don’t happen in “nature.” antibiotics don’t happen in “nature” (i’m aware that they grow naturally, but it isn’t as though some tree’s like “i have an infection, better grow me some penicillin”). nature isn’t a bunch of naked people running around with animals in the forest. nature is what exists. it is the status quo. so yeah, homosexuality is natural because it fuckin’ happened. if it was unnatural, it wouldn’t have, or it would have been due to some horrendous Nazi reprogramming or something, which is not far from what Phelps and his ilk would have you believe.

    /end rant.

  3. Mikey…wassup?
Wouldn’t Nazi reprogramming be considered natural under that system? I mean, if it happend, then its natural, right? Pollution and nuclear weapons are natural because people made them, and people are natural. I’m just an advanced monkey.

Also, I can’t tell if you’re criticizing what I said…I agree that the nature of belief causes conflict, and I’m sick of all this PC/tolerance bullshit. My God is better than your God: deal with it. Your Gods aren’t equal to mine because mine says he’s the only one. I was just pointing out that people who preach tolerance generally become hypocrites in some form or another. No one is tolerant on everything. Like animal liberationists acting like they’re environmentalists.

  4. Your God is better than anyone else’s from your view, but to someone who doesn’t believe in your God, he isn’t. All I’m saying is, all this PC/tolerance bullshit doesn’t mean you have to agree with people, just don’t be a douchebag about it.

You’re right, by the way, to point out that, by my argument, Nazi reprogramming is natural, but my point is that “natural” is nonexistent: natural is just the old status quo.

And to be honest, everyone’s a hypocrite. Let’s learn to deal with this.
