Now, I get confused sometimes. Like. I see a plane and think it’s a boat. Occasionally, I mistake cows for iguanas…
…but rarely do I mistake beagles for dachshunds…
It has happened four times now when walking Edie. Twice to Brooke, twice for me (all of mine this week…). “Look at the wiener dog!” is the usual exclamation… Never “dachshund,” specifically…simply “wiener dog.”
Now, I realize Edie has some brown and black coloring in her. And floppy ears. And, because there’s some bassett hound in her, she’s perhaps slightly longer than your typical beagle. But in no way does she at all resemble a dachshund.
Just wanted to clear that up…
At first I was really proud of you for spelling “dachshund” correctly, but then you ruined it by spelling it “weiner” instead of “wiener.” For shame!
Corrected now…thanks… 😛 For the record, I did look up “dachshund” before publishing the post, just in case…
I want to know when little Edie is gonna get her own blog so she can rant about this stuff herself. The cat has one, why not the dog?
People think my beagle, Elmo, looks like Eddie from “Fraser” which was a Jack Russell Terrier but that is not nearly as bad as being called a dachshund/wiener dog. I don’t think the dogs mind the mix up as much as their owners do. As long as you pat them on the head and scratch behind their ears a bit you can call them whatever you want 😉
You should post a picture, so that we can decide for ourselves.
There are pictures on my Google page:

Enjoy… 😛
they probably think that because she’s so fat. (I know, she came like that – not your fault)
because i owned a dachshund for 12 years, i personally HATE the phrase “wiener dog” even when it’s in reference to the right breed. so yeah, people are dumb in your neck of the woods.
also, what do you think of picasa? i don’t know anyone else that uses it.
I wonder why we care what breed the dogs we see are. I asked Rachel this question and she said she usually at least knew about the breed. People are always asking her what kind of dogs she has. Jake, the beagle, people know about but when she talks about Mia, the weimaraner, people look like they’ve been struck! Does this really make a difference?
Yeah, see, I’m not sure that I’d ever actually seen a weimaraner before Mia, honestly…but I certainly knew what beagles look like… I mean, I think people can get away with not knowing the more “rare” breeds, but seriously…beagles and dachshunds are a dime a dozen, for the most part… People can see both varieties almost anywhere!
And Laura, yeah, I’ve used Picasa a bit, but really only for posting pictures on Google Photos… I haven’t used it for any extensive photo editing… I usually pull out Photoshop or The Gimp (under Linux)… So far as I can tell, it’s a relatively powerful program, though!
So what makes me wonder is why nobody seems to have heard of weimaraners. Out of 155 breeds they’re 30 on the list of most registered..that seems pretty common to me…
