In the words of Jon Stewart: “Wall Street lost $7 trillion without selling anything — at least when Detroit loses money, we get cars.”
A.L.F. uses a Hulu hoop…
Digital distribution of TV shows is quickly becoming the new way of getting content to the consumer, making it less necessary to even have cable or a DVR… ABC and CBS have their own services, but NBC went with what they call Hulu…no idea what it means…
I had never tried this service before, but after the most recent PS3 patch that came through, now it is capable of using Flash 9, which is the most recent version what is required by many streaming video sites (YouTube included…) to function. Because of this, I can how access Hulu through the PS3 and stream video content to my TV without the need to plug in my laptop…which…is kinda awesome, really…
So, to test this out, I looked through the somewhat extensive catalog of shows to watch. Each one contains a few commercials, with maybe two 30 sec commercials and one 15 sec commercial interspersed at the appropriate places…far better than the minutes upon minutes of commercials you’d see on broadcast televisions, but still not as good as skipping through them with your DVR. You really ought to browse through there, because it isn’t just NBC shows, but nearly anything produced by Universal…so Fringe is on there, too…as well as movies…all for free…
Anyway, long story short(er), I found A.L.F…and Hulu has three (of four) seasons of it. I watched the first episode today and, damn, that acting was terrible… 🙂 Seriously, A.L.F. and Willy were the only decent actors on that show (with the possible exception of Liz Sheridan as Mrs. Ochmonek…and Lucky the Cat, of course…). They should have cut everyone else out of it.
So yeah, if there’s nothing on TV you want to watch, check out Hulu. (Note: this isn’t anything new…Hulu’s been around for at least a year…I just finally discovered it…)
So wrong, yet so right…
I swear, I’m finding more amusing YouTube videos than anything else to post up here, but it’s very difficult to resist! If you don’t watch Battlestar Galactica, you probably won’t find it all that amusing…but if you do…you will… 🙂
Old people are funny!
This was on last night’s Daily Show… One of the commentators, Wyatt Cenac, shows clips from the debate with some old people and gets their comments… Cenac doesn’t have much to say, as the old people are plenty willing to give their opinions.
But yeah, either way, some striking insights!
How much did Bill pay Jerry for this?
Now, I haven’t seen this ad on TV, and seeing as it’s 1.5 minutes long, I doubt I ever will…
…but seriously…what is it even about?! Are they saying that Microsoft products are so bloated, they feel like you’re eating cake? Or that during all of Vista’s development cycle, Bill Gates was off buying shoes at a mall with Jerry Seinfeld?
I’m very confused…
More politics…why not?
All the shenanigans around Sarah Palin’s nomination just baffles my mind. There’s a huge double-standard out there coming from the right-wing…check out the following video to see some evidence…
It’s stunning…
(Yeah…”The Daily Show” is getting another Peabody…guaranteed…)
Update: Here’s a nice run-down of some “fact checks” from all the lies from Palin’s speech last night, too… And if you want a less liberally-leaning list of facts that were distorted from the GOP convention, here’s a list from the Associated Press…
Update #2: As was pointed out on another blog today (in a comment…so I can’t cite it…): Jesus was a Community Organizer, and Pontius Pilate was a governor! 😛
Genius
“She’s got to. She’s a Democrat. She must prove she loves America, as opposed to Republicans, who everyone knows loves America: they just hate half the people living in it.”

Indecision 2008 – Michelle Obama’s Patriotism | ||||
|
Firstly, that whole episode of “The Daily Show” last night was pure genius. They are in Denver for the Democratic National Convention, providing their characteristic “coverage” of the speeches and news surrounding the event. This is the kind of thing the writers/producers of the show win a Peabody, and surely this election cycle will be no different.
Secondly, I have been watching some of the speeches, but at the very least, the “big name” speech of each night, including Michelle Obama (as described in the video above) and Hillary Clinton.
Michelle Obama is a badass and I’d love to see her in a debate with Cindy McCain, ’cause it’d be brutal and sad. I like that she doesn’t take any crap from people, and that she has a mind of her own. Watching Laura Bush speak…very occasionally (what…she talks?)…is very uninspiring, and mostly boring. Michelle wrote her own speech (according to Rep. Harold Ford) and delivered it as well as her husband would have. Beautiful, inspiring words…and yes, she’s patriotic…
Hillary Clinton spoke last night and, while I wasn’t quite as “inspired” as I was by Michelle Obama’s, it was still an excellent speech that held the tone of party unity admirably. From the outset, she expressed her support for Obama and the party as a whole, discussed her accomplishments in the campaign, and even stuck it to McCain as, perhaps, only she could. I’m glad she’s putting this “divided party” thing to bed, thankfully not providing a spectacle for the pundits to tear apart and report on for 25 hours a day (not a typo). Either way, it sounds like most people were very impressed by her words and that she’s a team player, which will probably just make her more powerful within the party than she ever would have been as President.
Only a few months left!
Too bad…
…they canceled Joan of Arcadia after only 2 seasons…
Joan: “It was a total disaster.”
God: “Nothing of value comes without a little struggle. Some of the most beautiful flowers in the world only grow after a forest fire. Literally out of the ashes they blanket the ground with color.”
Joan: “Yeah, but if you made that happen without the fire, people would like you more.”
God: “They’d just find something else to blame me for.”
God: “You can’t control everything, Joan. Turmoil, conflict, chaos; they’re just part of life. Look at any playground. The screaming, the laughter, the tears. Out of that mayhem comes relationships, love, and the simple joy of being surprised by life.”
Joan: “So, more surprises?”
God: “Oh yeah, there’s always more surprises.”
Mmmm…new toys…
So, we went ahead and switched from DISH Network to AT&T’s U-Verse service, which means that we still have AT&T DSL and phone service, but now our TV comes through the phone line, also… U-Verse is amongst the first (along with Verizon’s FiOS service) that uses fiber optic cabling to increase bandwidth along phone lines, thus allowing robust television signals to travel on there as well as digital data and analog phone signals. The benefits are as follows, from our perspective:
These three primary things for ~$10-$15 more a month than we were originally spending… So yeah, we’re spending a bit more…but we’re also getting more, and personally, getting more value per monetary increase in cost.
Anyway, I do have a concern or two with this new service, primarily in that everything now goes through a cute little box sitting next to my computer. Meaning, our DSL modem and router are now combined…but not only that…the TV signal now goes through that same box. If that box decides it doesn’t want to work anymore, we will not have TV or internet until AT&T can come out and fix and/or replace it. I guess it’s my same argument against the iPhone, in that if my phone dies, then my iPod and organizer go with it… There are certain things I like to be separate, and this may be one of them. Then again, perhaps it’s the wave of the future, so I should just get used to it.
So yeah, this will be an interesting experiment. Everything seems to work well so far, though!
…now, they just need SciFi in HD and I’ll be happy… 🙂
The Huckabee Transitive Property
So, for those that don’t watch these shows, here’s the deal:
Over the past few weeks, Stephen Colbert on “The Colbert Report” was taking credit for Mike Huckabee’s success in Iowa (and later primaries) because Huckabee came on his show just before the caucus. Thus, Colbert “made” Huckabee.
Conan O’Brien, on Late Nite with Conan O’Brien, then took credit for “making” Huckabee because he always refers to Chuck Norris in his show, and Norris is a Huckabee supporter…so thus, Conan “made” Huckabee.
Colbert was not happy about this and kept yelling at Conan over the airwaves, and vice versa. Finally, Jon Stewart of “The Daily Show” comes on “The Colbert Report” to show a video where he, when on “The Jon Stewart Show” (MTV) in 1994, introduced the new host of “Late Nite,” Conan O’Brien. Thus, Stewart made Conan, Stewart made Colbert…Stewart made Huckabee.
Apparently, last Friday night, Conan threatened to descend from network television to the depths of cable TV to Comedy Central if Colbert and Stewart brought it up again, after showing evidence that he was actually the doctor that delivered both Colbert and Stewart (a “doctored” photo, of course…yet strangely hilarious…).
Well, of course, Colbert stops by “The Daily Show” at 10:00 to see Stewart, talk about it…and then Conan shows up. They’re gonna fight it out, but Stewart says he has to wait until the end of his show. They wait…but by the time Stewart is done, Colbert has left to start his own show. Stewart and Conan then go on “The Colbert Report.” Of course, Colbert has to finish his show, and by the time he’s done…Conan has to do his show…down the hall…
The battle royale culminates in the video above. Colbert and Stewart get in an all-out brawl on “Late Nite”…and it’s pretty hilarious…
I mean, the video is funny enough without reading all this back-story I just provided…but for those that want to know why they’re fighting…there you go… 😛
P.S. All this stuff I just wrote is on YouTube in different clips, but I didn’t want to post all of it…the above is, by far, the best part…
