You know you’ve “made it” when Cookie Monster comes on your show… 😉

This is pretty funny, and fun to watch characters from my childhood interacting with characters from my adulthood…which is kinda surreal, really… Anyway, enjoy!

(…speaking of childhood…I was born 26 years ago…I’m old…)

Edit: See, I didn’t know this…but besides my birth, June 20th also marks when the patent for Morse Code was issued…fascinating…

The Huckabee Transitive Property

So, for those that don’t watch these shows, here’s the deal:

Over the past few weeks, Stephen Colbert on “The Colbert Report” was taking credit for Mike Huckabee’s success in Iowa (and later primaries) because Huckabee came on his show just before the caucus. Thus, Colbert “made” Huckabee.

Conan O’Brien, on Late Nite with Conan O’Brien, then took credit for “making” Huckabee because he always refers to Chuck Norris in his show, and Norris is a Huckabee supporter…so thus, Conan “made” Huckabee.

Colbert was not happy about this and kept yelling at Conan over the airwaves, and vice versa. Finally, Jon Stewart of “The Daily Show” comes on “The Colbert Report” to show a video where he, when on “The Jon Stewart Show” (MTV) in 1994, introduced the new host of “Late Nite,” Conan O’Brien. Thus, Stewart made Conan, Stewart made Colbert…Stewart made Huckabee.

Apparently, last Friday night, Conan threatened to descend from network television to the depths of cable TV to Comedy Central if Colbert and Stewart brought it up again, after showing evidence that he was actually the doctor that delivered both Colbert and Stewart (a “doctored” photo, of course…yet strangely hilarious…).

Well, of course, Colbert stops by “The Daily Show” at 10:00 to see Stewart, talk about it…and then Conan shows up. They’re gonna fight it out, but Stewart says he has to wait until the end of his show. They wait…but by the time Stewart is done, Colbert has left to start his own show. Stewart and Conan then go on “The Colbert Report.” Of course, Colbert has to finish his show, and by the time he’s done…Conan has to do his show…down the hall…

The battle royale culminates in the video above. Colbert and Stewart get in an all-out brawl on “Late Nite”…and it’s pretty hilarious…

I mean, the video is funny enough without reading all this back-story I just provided…but for those that want to know why they’re fighting…there you go… 😛

P.S. All this stuff I just wrote is on YouTube in different clips, but I didn’t want to post all of it…the above is, by far, the best part…

Quotes and Links…

On my iGoogle page this morning, the following was my link of the day…and I enjoyed it:

“Equations are the devil’s sentences.”
– Stephen Colbert

On another note, Zachary Quinto will be playing Spock in the new “Star Trek” movie that J.J. Abrams is producing/writing/directing… Honestly, I’m not sure how I feel about this. I mean, I think the guy, with the proper hair, could look the part, and I know he can do “unemotional acting,” but the character he plays in “Heroes” is Sylar…and that guy is evil. There are certain actors that just seem to play good “bad guys,” and it’s hard to imagine their transition to a “good guy” role. I’ve heard they’re envisioning a trilogy for these “Star Trek” movies, assuming this one does well enough, meaning that this guy could be playing Spock for years to come, but still…I just dunno…

In other news, my boss is still out of town, so I’ll be going home early today…maybe play some “Super Mario World” and “Resident Evil 4,” but I also need to get started writing my Prelim. This document will be a 25-page grant that I have to defend in order to “officially enter the doctoral program” here at SLU, so it’s kinda a big deal. I generally know what I’m writing it on, but it’s a little hard getting the ball rolling. I hope to defend in November/December, so I’ve still got time – that, and I don’t have classes to take anymore, so there isn’t much getting in the way of the writing…

…I just need to get started…that’s all…

Need I say more?

So, I was flipping through Daily Kos (who was interviewed on The Colbert Report a few weeks back, so I’ve been checking out the blog recently) and saw this posting referring to an article at Think Progress regarding a new policy by our friends in the government regarding funding for abstinence education. Think Progress made the following highlights:

“In addition to being costly, inaccurate, and ineffective, the programs must now operate under a strict new definition of abstinence:”

Abstinence curricula must have a clear definition of sexual abstinence which must be consistent with the following: ‘Abstinence means voluntarily choosing not to engage in sexual activity until marriage. Sexual activity refers to any type of genital contact or sexual stimulation between two persons including, but not limited to, sexual intercourse.’

Later, the guidelines explicitly define marriage:

Throughout the entire curriculum, the term ‘marriage’ must be defined as ‘only a legal union between one man and one woman as a husband and wife, and the word ?spouse? refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife.’ (Consistent with Federal law)”

Seriously…can’t people simply stop persecuting the people who a). they don’t understand and b). they don’t agree with? What damage, exactly, would pre-marital sex and homosexual relations have to America (or the world)? Isn’t it worse to get married just to have sex, and then have a baby, and then get a divorce? Are they going to outlaw birth control next?

…there are times, yo…I swear…

More reasons why Republicans are dumb…

As reported in the February 9, 2006 episode of The Colbert Report, Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez said the following to the senate judiciary committee regarding President Bush’s wiretapping shenanigans:

“I gave in my opening statement, Senator, examples where President Washington, President Lincoln, President Wilson, President Roosevelt…have all authorized electronic surveillance of the enemy on a far broader scale…”

— Atty. Gen. Alberto Gonzalez
“I can’t believe he said that!? Those are precious state secrets!? No one’s supposed to know about George Washington’s covert electronic surveillance program!”

— Stephen Colbert

Seriously…who the hell appointed that guy?? Oh yeah…the Republicans…what a big surprise…
