So, let’s all agree that…

As per an article at ABC News titled “‘Schwarzenator’ vs. Bush“:

[Assembly Bill 32] would generally require California to roll statewide emissions back to 1990 levels by the year 2020, a cut of about 25 percent. “I say the [global warming] debate is over. We know the science,” Schwarzenegger declared forcefully at a recent United Nations summit. “We see the threat, and we know the time for action is now.”

President Bush, however, continues to cast doubt on the consensus in the scientific community that man-made emissions cause global warming.

“I have said consistently that global warming is a serious problem. There’s debate over whether it’s man-made or naturally caused?,” the president told reporters in June, hours after an extreme thunderstorm felled an elm tree to the ground just outside his White House door.

The president expressed similar sentiments last March: “The globe is warming. The fundamental debate is, is it man-made or natural ? but put that aside.”

(After extensive searches, ABC News has found no such debate.)

I guess I just found it rather humorous that ABC News actually printed that…yet I’m glad they did…? It just surprised me that ABC had a sense of humor…? At least someone did their homework on this subject…

You gotta know when to hold ’em…

So, I played poker at Jeremy/Ben/Dave’s tonight…been almost a month since we last played, so it was much-needed, so far as I was concerned… Anyway, I can’t say I started out too well. Early on in the game (like, within 15 min), I flopped a straight and tried to “slow-play” it so I’d trap someone else into staying in. Problem was, I “trapped” Jeremy into getting a flush (which beat my straight), so I lost some money right then and there. That play kinda set the tone for the next few hours and my $$$ dwindled…

Fast-forward to 9:30 (2 hrs later). I’ve gone up and down a little bit, but I’m still down to $1.50 from the $5 I started with. I knew I had to get some cards quick, otherwise I’d be in serious trouble. Well, I pick up a pair of aces, so I go “all-in.” Ben follows and so does Jeremy (but there’s a split-pot between the two of them). Anyway, long story short, my aces hold up and I win my “all-in,” and I end up $1 in profit by the end of the night. I go from -$3.50 to +$1.

Needless to say, I got pretty damned lucky… Now I just need to find me a casino…

Mmmm, toys…

Well, I’m about ready to purchase that new computer system in the next few weeks… I already got a new LCD monitor for a whopping $105, after rebate, so I’m well on my way… But for now, here’s the system I have speced out:

I was hoping I didn’t need a video card, as many nForce motherboards have one integrated (and for my Linux purposes, I don’t need anything crazy with regards to gaming), but this board apparently doesn’t have one, so I’m adding on a card… Total, the cost comes up to around $700 once you figure in shipping, etc…

Not too bad, you think? I’d actually like some video card suggestions… Not that I really want to play games much, but I’d kinda like to try getting UT2004 running under Linux, since a). there are Linux versions available, and b). I can run it in 64-bit mode. I’d like to stick with nVidia because their Linux drivers are much, much better than ATi’s…but I’m thinking that I could get a decent GeForce card of the previous generation (6 series) for the same price as a budget GeForce of the current one (7 series). So yeah, that’s just one on Newegg right now, but lemme know if you know of something better…

Hell freezes over…

1). Dell has officially decided to start using AMD chips in their desktop line of PCs beginning as early as next month. Honestly, I’ve had three major reasons for hating Dell over the past few years: reliance on only Windows, reliance on only Intel, and the fact that their systems suck because of both. So yeah, hopefully by adding AMD, they’ll improve the quality of their systems and give AMD a boost in the process.

2). Due to the new planet-naming structure, if Pluto is to remain a planet, then other “celestial bodies” needed to be re-designated as planets, including an asteroid (Ceres) and even Pluto’s moon, Charon. Well, apparently, if Charon is to be added, then that means that our own moon would count as a planet, as well.

Anyway, we’re off to Columbia a little later today…just figured I’d post a bit…

Ok, Ok…

…Here’s your update…

Two weeks ago, Mallory and Leland visited on Thursday night. We went to Blueberry Hill with them, then they went to a Carninals’ game and then came back to stay at our place. Of course, by the time they got there, I was asleep and I left for work before they were even thinking about getting up. Then, that Friday, Mom met me in St. Peters after work and Rachel came back home with me. We went mini-golfing, shopping at St. Louis Mills (where we bought too many matching things), to dinner at the Olive Garden for her birthday, and then Mom and Dad came for dinner on Sunday. As you’ve surely read in Sam’s blog, we also picked out new food for the cat and a new brush.

I’ve had 3 job interviews and 1 more to go in the past couple of weeks. So far, I’ve been offered the one that pays the least but might be the most fun, so we’re still waiting to hear back from the others before a decision is made, since I want a Yaris and to quickly pay back my student loans from last year.

That’s about all, except for some reason I have had an ear ache for the past few days which caused a slight mental breakdown that Andy is not very happy about….I just don’t want to get sick when I have so much going on right now! I’ll let you know more when I know more, myself!
