I’ve been looking for a job for about 2 months since I decided not to be a teacher and so far haven’t had any luck at all. When I started this search, I gave myself until May 15 to find something and if not, then I need to find a job at Barnes and Noble or something. It’s getting really close to that deadline and I’ve probably applied for about 35 jobs and not heard ANYTHING back from any of them. Now, I’m not applying for jobs that pay a lot or take a lot of experience that I don’t have, so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong or how to find something in the next few days before lowering myself to retail again. Anyway, if anybody out there has any ideas or good connections in Saint Louis, let me know, or at least pray for me and my hunt.

Did you ever contact Truman like I suggested months ago? I would think they may have some suggestions.
Yep…and they posted my resume in their Sociology/Anthropology folder and said that’s all they could do. So far, from that, I got an opportunity to apply for an unpaid internship in Italy and that’s it…but it was a good suggestion!
Follow up with every place you submitted an application: Ask them what the status of your app is. Did you apply in person, or submit resumes via mail or online? It’s harder for people to ignore or forget you if you’re there in the flesh.
If you know of places you’d like to work, but they don’t have any openings posted, go in and ask to speak to someone about a job anyway. There’s always the possibility that a place is looking for someone for some new job that hasn’t made it through the HR gauntlet yet.
Go pick up a copy of “What Color is your Parachute?” by some guy whose name I can’t recall. Angela found it helpful when she was looking for a job (though she ended up going back to school anyway), and it was full of information I never knew.
If you can give me a brief summary of what kind of work you’re looking for, I can trawl the BJC trenches and see if I know a guy that knows a guy that is looking for someone like you.
…or you could go to nursing school and then pick one of a thousand nursing jobs in STL. 🙂
